A dazzling sunny ride from the Coffee Break café, wearing two pairs of socks, two pairs of gloves and many layers! Our regular route by Palmers Green, Alexandra Palace, Hornsey to Kenwood house and café. A light lunch inside with cakes, tea, coffee. There were lots of walkers and dog enthusiasts out enjoying the landscape view. Returning by Parkland Walk old railway line cycle trail to Winchmore Hill about 2pm. Leader Bridget, Riders John, Paul L, Peter D. Peter M, Pat (partway), Trevor, Backstop Tim.

Twenty three eager cyclists assembled in Enfield Town Park before setting off towards Enfield Island Village and making our way through Gunpowder Park. Here we were joined by two more riders before continuing to Waltham Abbey and onwards to Southend Farm. Although the sun was shining there was a definite chill in the air so most of us settled down inside the Lakeside Cafe for a hearty brunch. One or two did brave the benches outside and we were all treated to homemade cakes courtesy of Rachel. On returning home we skirted around High Beech and descended Avey Lane before passing through Gunpowder Park and Albany Park and then back to Enfield Town Park via Brimsdown and Ponders End. Leader Geoff, Riders Becky, Ben, Bridget, Cliff R, Dave G, Debbie, Deirdre, Imran, Jeff, John F, Marion, Morna, Pete D, Peter M, Rachel, Sarah C, Stephen, Sue, Tim, Trevor, Pat, Lydia, Backstop Cathy
The weather forecast promised mild and sunny, and for once it was spot on. We gathered at Beggars Hollow then set off across the old golf course, through Crews Hill and up Coopers Lane Road (that name always confuses me!). At the top we stopped for a five minute rest, then continued through Brookmans Park, Welham Green, to Willows Farm, where we took a rather sly short cut (with some rather vicious speed humps) underneath the dual carriageway to reach London Colney Green. After enjoying drinks and food at the Green Dragon, followed by an impromptu repair to a misbehaving headset, it was back through Potters Bar and this time down Coopers Lane Road back to Beggars Hollow. Leater Peter M, riders Becky, Bridget, Cathy, Cliff, Deidre, Geoff, John F, Keely, Paul L, Peter D, Trevor, backstop Jeff. Also at the start were Debbie, Pat, Tim who came to wave us off.
From the Coffee Break café in overcast weather we followed the Pymmes Brook trail upstream (No not in the water!). By way of Broomfield, Arnos and Oakhill parks, then side roads to Monken Hadley. We stopped briefly to see Spike Milligan's old house and a short while further on tried to decipher the date over the entrance to Hadley Church. At Barnet Courthouse Café we all squeezed inside for some relief form the cold. Return route was via East Barnet, where some stopped for tea and biscuits chez Peter, and others went on for a longer ride out towards Walthan Abbey in preparation for the Essex 100. Leader Paul, Riders Geoff, Cathy, Jeff, Peter M, Peter D, Debbie, Cliff, Deirdre, Trevor, Tim, Pat Backstop Stephen.

At 10 am precisely we set off from Coffee Break in lovely sunshine, after 4 days of constant rain, to ride to Woodberry Wetlands. The route took us first to Ally Pally, along the short section of the Parklands Walk, affording great views over central London, up to Highgate, passing the house where the great Peter Sellers used to live (Is there a pattern here. Next week Harry Secombe?). From there we joined the longer section of the Parkland Walk down to Finsbury Park, where the number one priority was avoiding dogs and dog walkers! From here it was only a short ride to our stop at the posh café at the Woodberry Wetlands. There we enjoyed our hot drink and snack in gorgeous sunshine, whilst many prospective David Baileys snapped away with their phone cameras! Our return journey took us through Stamford Hill, where we witnessed many from the Jewish Hasidic community dressed up for Purim festival, and down to Springfield Park with its rowers out in force. We rode through our second wetlands of the day, the Walthamstow variety, onto Edmonton and then our third and final wetlands at Firs Farm, although by then most had peeled off already for home. All in all a very pleasant 4 hours.
Were we shaking off March's dismal weather? The forecast was dry but cloudy, brightening up by mid morning. Ten cyclists gathered at Trent Park for a ride initially through Barnet then down Rowley Lane to Borehamwood. By now it was mid morning and still cloudy! We continued through Borehamwood then out on Watling Street and Butterfly Lane to Aldenham Road. Here the flood we experienced last time was slightly lower, with the crown of the road being, if not exactly dry, at least not underwater. From here it was a short ride to Elstree Aerodrome where we found a very busy café and lots of activity on the airfield. Return via Radlett, Borehamwood (UK pothole champion?) and up Galley Lane to Barnet Arkley where the sun finally appeared about three hours later than forecast as we split on our various routes home. Leader Peter M, riders Cathy, Geoff, Marion, Michael, Pat, Paul, Stephen, Tim, backstop Debbie.
A relaxed ride from Edmonton Leisure Centre via Walthamstow wetlands to the Pumphouse Engineering Museum, then east to the Vestry Museum and café. Our third short visit was to William Morris Museum in Lloyd Park. Returning to start about 2.15pm. Leaders Bridget, Paul. Riders Michael, Peter D, Peter M, Angela, Tim, Pat, Cathy, Geoff. Backstops Debbie and Karen
The ride was in doubt following weather forecasts which varied from little but some rain at times to lots of rain. However, it was dry when we gathered at Edmonton Leisure Centre, so we decided to go ahead. The rain though began shortly after we set off , even though it was quite light, and remained with us for most of our ride down to, then along the River Lea towpath. Fortunately it stopped as we arrived at Cody Dock, so we were able to eat out lunch in dry conditions. Our return journey took us back through West Ham, onto the Greenway, and then home via the Olympic Park and the Walthamstow Wetlands. Unfortunately rain accompanied us most of the way home, so we were relieved to make it home. Well done to those club riders who braved the less than favourable weather. Ride leaders: Tim & Paul, Riders: Geoff, Jeff, Peter M, Peter D, Stephen, Cathy, Pat, Marion, Angela. Backstop Debbie.
We met up at Trent Park then set off westwards. We knew Dancers Hill road was closed for road works, so the initial route took us up Beech Hill and Kitts End Road until we rejoined the planned route along Trotters Bottom. From here we crossed the A1 bridge and contiued to Shenley and down(!) Black Lion Hill. We had ample time before the pub opened so we continued slowly into Smug Oak Lane then followed the River Ver along Drop Lane, reaching The Gate at Bricket Wood just as it opened. Very tasty pizzas and a well kept IPA! After lunch we continued through Bricket Wood itself, stopping to admire the Picture House before continuing through Aldenham and Letchmore Heath. Three hills later we reached the top of Galley Lane in Barnet wehere we split to follow various routes home. About 35 miles. Leader Peter M, riders Cliff, Geoff, Jamie, Keely, Marion, Paul, Peter D, Sue. Backstop Jeff.
A double ride day out, with the weather much better than the previous day. Ride Jeff went via leafy lanes from Enfield Beggars Hollow to Hertford and café lunch, while ride Paul was from Edmonton Leisure Centre east via Lea Valley, Avey Lane to Southend Farm Lakes café. The two pelotons reached the gates to Cedars Park literally within seconds of each other! Here we spend half an hour or so at the Coronation Community Fête before returning to the Enfield area. Ride 1, Leader Jeff, riders Bridget, Cliff, Keeley, John, Michael, Geoff, Martin. Ride 2 leader Paul, riders Karen, Debbie, Josh, Cathy, Cliff R, Angela, Tim, Peter D, backstop Peter M.
Twelve of us set off from Beggars Hollow and made our way through Enfield Island Village and Gunpowder Park towards Avey Lane for our first hill climbing challenge of the day. After successfully completing this we then had a relatively flat and downhill spell through High Beach and towards Theydon Bois before turning left onto Piercing Hill for our next little climb. After continuing through Epping Upland and Thornwood we headed for our destination at North Weald Airfield. Some decided to take lunch in the Wings Café while others decided to spend the time browsing the large Saturday Market. Due to interest in the market our return home was delayed for 30 minutes (apologies to those who were waiting at the departure point at the agreed time). On our way back through Coopersale and Theydon Bois we managed to find a few more hills and had to negotiate an obstacle course of roadworks on Bridge Hill leading up to Ivy Chimneys Road. The weather wasn't quite as warm as had been predicted but nevertheless a very enjoyable ride. Leader Geoff, Riders Pete D, Marion, Stephen, Peter M, Paul L, John F, Imran, Michael, Cliff N, Keeley, Backstop: Cathy C.
Seven members volunteered to help marshal this event in support of the Nightingale Cancer Support Centre, which saw about 700 walkers on routes of 15, 10 or 5 kilometers. Thanks to Maz, Paul L, Jeff, Karen, Bridget, Cathy, Geoff. Well done everyone.
A fine spring day ride from Edmonton Leisure Centre south, passing Hackney, busy with a half marathon so bit slow going. Then by Three Mills, Bow Locks, Limehouse Cut, CS3 to Bow Creek and Tritiny Wharf for lunch at the English café. We noted that the All-American Fat Boy Diner near by was open again. Back by Mile End, Victoria Park to Edmonton about 3:30pm. Leader Paul L, Riders Stephen, Sarah, Debbie, Jamie, Trevor, Marion, Vimal, John, Rosa, Backstop Imran.
As part of their preparation for the Chipperfield ride some of our team decided to sign up for the ESSEX 100 event. The ESSEX 100 is a gruelling 100 mile route through the Essex countryside starting on the Embankment in Westminster and finishing on Tower Bridge. This distance is well outside of our normal comfort zone but 10 members of Edmonton Cycle Club completed the ride in good time before collecting their medals in front of big crowds at the finish. Bring on Chipperfield on 25th June!
A glorious day which was well attended by the local cyclists. 36 left from Edmonton Green at 09:30. 30 more from Palmers Green which also met up with around a large number in Haringey to bring the total to 100 cyclists. The Edmonton ride was a little slow because of the numbers but we soldiered on through Tottenham Marshes, Walthamstow Wetlands, Hackney Marshes, Victoria Park, Regents Canal then onto the road for the final stretch into the Freecycle entrance at Cornhill (Bank).
A ride around the Freecycle route (7 or 8 miles) completely traffic free, and lunch at one of the many food outlets made it a great day.
The journey home was with all three groups so a simpler quiet road route was used through Shoreditch, Stoke Newington, Stamford Hill and Tottenham where we all split and made our way back to the start points, and home just after 5pm. Just over 30 miles including the Freecycle. ECC Riders Pete D, John, Vimal, Stephen
A lovely sunny morning, but the day got off to an unfortunate start when one rider shut her hand in her car door after parking up and unloading her bike. She decided to get the bruising checked out so she set off for an NHS walk in centre while the rest of us mounted up and headed from Trent Park towards Beech Hill. Passing through Monken Hadley, Potters Bar and Welham Green we made our way to our destination at Hatfield House where we sat outside in the sun to enjoy our lunch. Thankfully we received a message there saying that the hand injury had been checked and was not serious. After a short wander round the courtyard we headed home passing Brookmans Park Golf Course on our way back towards our starting point. A nice ride in welcome sunshine and mainly on quiet roads and pathways. Leader Geoff, riders Bridget, Jeff, Michael, Pat, Paul L, Peter M, Rosa, Trevor, Vimal, backstop: Cathy

At heatwave was forecast and it didn't disappoint. But those who braved the heat enjoyed a long ride through central Hertfordshire. We started off on the familiar route out along Coopers Lane Road then down to A1000 and up to Hatfield. From here we followed the cycle path to Welwyn Garden City where we met a couple more riders who had taken the train. We rode out through the Ayots, stopping briefly to admire the arts and craft inspired church at Ayot St Peter, before dropping down to a ford across the Mimram river. Then up to Codicote and lunch at Spokes Cyclists Café. After lunch we returned to Welwyn Garden City through Datchworth and Tewin, then back home by the reverse of our outward route. Leader Peter M, Riders Birgitta, Cliff, Imran, Jeff, Pat, Paul L, Sarah, Tim. Backstop Rosa.
On the morning of our annual fundraising event, and with the sun blazing, 15 riders assembled at Beggars Hollow along with an assortment of club members who had come to see us off. After a group photo we set off for Ferny Hill and headed towards Shenley. In spite of the blistering heat we maintained a steady pace before making a brief riverside stop near Bricket Wood. Pressing on we skirted around Abbots Langley and Kings Langley before tackling two challenging hills just outside of Chipperfield. Even though we were contending with 30+ degree temperatures there were no complaints (or very few anyway). We arrived at Chipperfield in good time and took advantage of an extended lunch stop to refuel with an assortment of food and drink. The second part of our journey saw us pass through North Watford and Boreham Wood. We had to avoid the temptation of stopping at the Ice Cream Farm in Galley Lane. We did have a couple of short comfort stops to sit in the shade and replenish our water bottles, but still arrived back at the Little Green Dragon at the planned time. Here we met with the 'tea and cakes' crew who were completing their ride at literally the same time as us. A wonderful evening ensued with plenty to eat and drink, and of course we all raised a glass to the great Les Bailey who made such an immense contribution to our club. He will never be forgotten. Leader Geoff, Riders Andy, Angie, Becky, Cliff N, Deirdre, Jeff, Keeley, Michael, Paul L, Rosa, Imran, Paul J, Ausilia. Backstop Peter M.
The High Beach group made their way up to the Biker's Café for a lovely lunch in Epping Forest followed by tea and homemade cakes at the High Beach Church. They arrived back to The Little Green Dragon at the same time as the Chipperfield group. Thanks to Pat for providing all the refreshments, Richard for allowing us to bring the food to the pub and for providing space for us and for everyone taking part and for all the generous donations made to North London Hospice. What a fantastic day and turnout for Les's memorial ride. You all made the day very special.
The rides raised £250 for the club, plus a whopping £740 for the North London Hospice. . Special thanks to Pat and Rachel for the delicious cakes which awaited us on our return.

A warm and breezy ride from Coffee Break Café south, through Palmers Green, Wood Green, Hornsey, Kentish Town past roadworks, the historic Roundhouse venue to a lap round the inner circle of Regents Park. We choose to eat lunch at the café by the tennis area early, about 11:45. For the return half we changed route to take on the notorious Swain's Lane, wow! we all got up! (Length 0.92 km, Height gain 72 meters, Average gradient 8%, max 20% - thanks to Trevor for these stats). We split up at Alexandra Palace, some to allotment visit and teacakes, the rest back to the Coffee Break. Leader Bridget, ably assisted by Angie. Riders Paul L, Geoff, Cathy, Maz, Jeff, Rosa, Sarah, Hal, Trevor, Sue, Peter M. Backstop Peter D.
We met at the Coffee Break and set off initially down the Green Lanes cycle path, across the A406 and along to Alexandra Palace. The first hill of the day took us up to Muswell Hill and the Parkland Walk, where the number of dog walkers meant progress was slow! Then we went across to Cherry Tree Woods, where being law abiding citizens we all walked our bikes through the ‘No Cycling’ park, up through East Finchley along what Barnet Council consider to be adequate cycle provision and into Stephens House and Gardens. Here we stopped for a coffee and bite before carrying on up the Dollis Valley Way and past the Barnet Physic Well, and the second hill of the day with a maximum gradient of 10%. After that we coasted down Galley Lane to a well deserved ice cream. Some of us (naming no names but you know who you are) managed three scoops. The return was via a more direct route through Barnet, Oakhill Park and on to our various home destinations. Leader Peter M, Riders Cliff, Keeley, Paul L, Peter D, Tim, Backstop Pat

Eleven of us set off from Enfield Town Park for a ride to Southend Farm fishing lakes in Upshire. This was a shortish, last minute ride, planned as an 'alternative Southend ride' as quite a few club members were taking part in the official 50 mile London to Southend ride. We rode to Ponders End, then up the River Lea towpath, through Gunpowder Park, where we were joined by another club member, before cycling up part of Avey Lane before dropping down to the lakes, where we spent a very pleasant hour at the café. The route back took us to Waltham Abbey, down the towpath to Enfield Lock, then west to Forty Hill and back into Enfield. The weather was nice, though in the return journey we had to contend with a strong wind. Leadet Tim,. Riders: Peter M, Pete D, John, Vimal, Hal, Cathy, Karen, Rosa, Rachel, Backstop Pat.

For our social in July, we decided to celebrate the lighter evenings by combining it with an evening ride. We met at Trent Park and rode off up Beech Hill to Barnet, then Kitts End Road and Baker Street to Potters Bar and on to Brookmans Park, where some were disappointed that we wern't stopping at the Brookman pub. But no, on we went down Bradmore Lane and along Warrengate Road to the Woodman Inn at Water End. Here they were a little overwhelmed by the arrival of a dozen cyclists, and the service was slow, but once food arrived it was very good. The beer, too, was well kept although the real ale pumps were a little hard to find! We left just as it was getting dark and rode back down the A1000 cycle lane, through Ridge and up Galley Lane to Arkley where we split for our various homeward destinations. Leader Peter M, Riders Andy, Bridget, Geoff, Janine. John, Maz, Morna, Paul. Peter D, Rosa. Backstop Chris.
A sunny Sunday for once from Edmonton Leisure Centre east via South Chingford, riding on back roads near river Ching. A slow climb up with a stop for the leaders chain problem, fixed thanks to Peter D. Then another rider suffered a rear puncture. We made a brief stop by Butlers Café near Queen Elizabeth I hunting lodge before riding by Rangers Road, Fairmead Road to the motor bikers' café at High Beach. After lunch it was on to Holy Innocents Church for tea and cake, where we were joined by some other members plus dogs. The return trip was via Hilly Fields, where some stayed to hear the live concert there. Leader Paul, Riders Peter M, Peter D, Karen, Marion, Geoff, Backstop Rosa. At the church Maz, Bridget, Michelle and four (seemed like more) dogs.
Eleven of us assembled at Trent Park Café and embarked on what turned out to be a ride of two halves. On the outward journey we cycled in near perfect conditions and even saw an odd glimpse of the sun. After riding up Beech Hill to avoid the long running road closure in Dancers Hill Road we made our way through Shenley and the outskirts of St. Albans before taking country lanes leading into Wheathampstead. Here we split into groups to explore the village and take lunch at various eating establishments before meeting back for the ride home. Black clouds were already collecting in the sky and, as we feared from the weather forecasts, we all got a thorough drenching as we made our way back through Sandridge, Colney Heath, Water End and Potters Bar. In spite of the weather we all agreed it had been an enjoyable day. Leader Geoff, Riders Bridget, Jeff, John F, Pat, Paul L, Pete D, Rosa, Tim, Backstop Cathy.
A ride with a difference today, as twelve of us got the train to Blackfriars and cycled to Teddington and back, going through 10 London Boroughs in the process. We set out along the Embankment, past the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, the Tate Britain, wending our way through Chelsea and Fulham to Putney Bridge, where we crossed the Thames. We got onto the Thames Path, cycling all the way round to Teddington Lock, coming off the path only to pass Kew Gardens. Arriving in Teddington, we had lunch in a pub by the river or a cafe in town before heading back. The return route took us through Ham, Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common. We stopped for photos at the Windmill on the common, prompting a short rendition of the Wombles theme!! We continued through Wimbledon Park, on back roads to Clapham Common, then back to Blackfriars on the super highway CS7. We were lucky to enjoy good weather throughout. It was a long day but a very enjoyable one, and a new route for the club. Leader: Tim; Riders: Paul, Peter D, Geoff, Vimal, Jeff (part way), Michael, Cathy, Sue, Debbie, Rosa, Sarah. Backstop: Cathy.

Seven of us met at 9:30 at Enfield Chase train station to take the Great Northern Service (30 min) to Watton at Stone. Opting for a group ticket the fare has been surprisingly low. Once arrived in Watton at Stone the group set off to cycle on quiet roads along the idyllic Hertfordshire countryside with rolling fields of grass, grain and cattle dotted with quaint little villages. The 30-mile journey at a swift pace led through Datchworth Green, Knebworth, Old Knebworth, Langley, Rush Green, Hitchin, where the cyclists stopped for delicious refreshments at Simmons Bakers, and Ickleford to the Hitchin Lavender Farm. Whilst the group got a good glimpse of the fields, surprisingly, nobody meandered the tempting fields of fragrant lavender and sunflowers in full glory. The day started cloudy with sunny spells, however, when setting off on their second leg the predicted rain arrived and the group got a bit wet. The return journey led through the outskirts of Letchworth Garden City, onto the cycle route 12 with is partially only a dirt road, towards Graveley, past the edges of Stevenage, and through Aston End where the cyclists stopped at the Crown to have a break at the pub's lovely beer garden, along Walkern Road back to Watton at Stone, timed nicely with the homeward bound train. Leader: Angie. Riders: Bridget, Paul, Pete D., Peter M., Rosa, Backstop: Jeff
We gathered at Beggars Hollow in slightly damp weather, but the forecast was sunny periods and so it proved. We set off along Bulls Cross Lane before meeting two more riders by St Mary's School, Cheshunt. The onward ride gave plenty of opportunity to test new electric bikes, as we took in the hills up to Newgate Street and Essendon. After Essendon we rode along West End Lane where we were surprised to see the Candlestick pub, which has been closed for about a year, was open and serving. But as we had planned to lunch at the Woodman we continued to Wildhill, where we enjoyed their basic, but well presented menu and some excellent beer. Afterwards we continued along Kentish Lane then up another hill(!) to the outskirts of Potters Bar. Here the leader abandoned the ride, but judging by the WhatsApp comments nevertheless everyone made it safely home, some even finding time to pick blackberries along the way. About 25 miles. Leader: Peter M, Riders: Debbie, Geoff, Janine, Jeff, John, Marion, Paul L, Rosa Backstop: Cathy. At lunch stop: Rachel
Bright start from Beggars Hollow by way of Potter's Bar, Colney Heath, Sandridge, although sadly there was no café there, just a shop. So into St Albans market area for cafés and lunch. Always enjoy it here! Return route towards Shenley and stop at Barnet Lewis ice cream emporium, excellent flavours. Then to Enfield finale. Leader Jeff, Riders Paul, Bridget, Pat, Tim, Marion, Angie, Cliff, Keeley, Vimal, Peter D, Peter M, Ben, Sarah, Sue, John F, Michael, Rosa, Backstop Debbie.

On a lovely clear morning 13 of us gathered at the Coffee Break Café before setting off down Green Lanes towards Palmers Green. We were shortly joined by another past member boosting our numbers to 14. After successfully tackling some gentle slopes on our way to Muswell Hill we passed Kenwood House and Hampstead Heath on our way towards Notting Hill. We made a brief stop at Craven Cottage to take a group photo in front of the Johnny Haynes Statue and then cycled down the road to our destination at Fulham Palace. Here we sat in the sun to enjoy our lunch and celebrate a birthday with some delicious lemon drizzle cake made by one of our guest riders. After a short time looking round the walled garden and museum we set off home via Hyde Park and Regents Park. On arriving back a few of us called in at the Palmers Green Festival taking place in Broomfield Park. Leader: Geoff. Riders: Ben, Dave, Debbie, Marion, Mike, Pat, Paul L, Pete D, Rosa, Janine, Hal, Tim. Backstop: Cathy
A group of 7 departed from Beggars Hollow and we collected an 8th member by Enfield Crematorium before cycling on through Albany Park and Enfield Island Village. From here we headed through Gunpowder Park and up to Waltham Abbey before encountering the hardest two climbs of the day in Horseshoe Hill and Crown Hill Given the scorching heat we were pleased to get these out of the way so we could then take it a bit easier for the remainder of the ride to Harlow Park. Once there we sought out shade to enjoy our lunch from the café and some of us found the energy to have a quick look around the Animal Centre. On the way back we passed through Roydon and the Lea Valley Country Park before branching off towards Cheshunt Railway Station. After a brief hold up at the level crossing we continued to Cedars Park and back down the A10 cycle track to Bullsmore Lane. On such a lovely day someone suggested we might like to make an additional refreshment stop so most of us called in at the Pied Bull for cold drinks in the garden before splitting up and making our way home. Leader: Geoff. Riders: Ben, Debbie, Imran, Paul L, Peter M, Rosa. Backstop: Cathy
Paul's potter to our regular venue. From Edomton Leisure Centre to Lea Valley at Ponders End lock. A towpath encounter with about 10 Breeze ladies riding also northbound, before they split away. We then stopped at the bird hide, then up Clayton hill, Nazeing Roadd to the café. Returning by winding paths to Cheshunt to Enfield. Leader Paul L Riders, Peter M, Imran, Vimal, Peter D, Backstop Pat.

Despite the café being closed, we met at Beggars Hollow as usual and set off on a familiar route along Bulls Cross Ride, picking up three more riders outside St Mary's School, and over Holy Cross Hill to Brickendon and Bayford. Then on to Hertingfordbury, skirting the edge of Hertford to reach Waterford. A very nasty hill took us to Sacombe Road which we followed to Sacombe Park. From here we passed through a magical looking tree tunnel to reach the Old Cambridge Road which we followed into Ware. Here we stopped for lunch, distributing ourselves between various establishments before regrouping for the homeward journey. This was less challenging than the morning, as we followed a largely flat route through Stanstead Abbotts, Hoddesdon, Broxbourne, Lee Valley to Cheshunt. From here on we started drop riders who took their own route home. Leader Peter M, Riders Bernie, Bridget, David, Debbie, Jeff, Marion, Michael, Mustafa, Paul L, Backstop Rosa
Our ride from the Coffee Break Café to Highgate to watch the annual time trial up the 900 metres of hill, some at a gradient of 20%. We stopped for lunch at Waterlow Park at Lauderdale House, locked bikes up, then a 5 minute walk west to the half way point. All sorts of cyclists took part, some of the fastest took 1 minute 15 seconds! We left at 2pm and back by about 3pm. A nice relaxed atmosphere, we were able to walk to the start and finish areas. This enevt is held around September yearly, organised by LCC. Leader Paul, Riders Maz, Dave, John, Peter D, Angela, Imran, Stephen, Backstop Jeff.
Another warm sunny autumn day from Coffee Break Café, following the usual route through Palmers Green, Ally Pally, Hornsey, Queens Vale climb to Hampstead Lane Kenwood and scenic views briefly. Then west past Jack Straws Castle to Golders Hill Park café for lunch. A short woodland walk to the lovely secret garden, where the pergola was under repair. Another short woody walk to Whitestone pond at top and ride back on easier roads, to Coffee Break arouns 3pm. Leader Paul, Riders Alan, Cathy, Geoff, Stephen, Ben, John, Debbie, Karen Sue Backstop Peter D.
Ten of us met in Edmonton for a ride to Woolwich covering a different route to what we had cycled previously, this time including panoramic views and historic buildings. We set out along towards the River Lea canal, and cycled south to just past Three Mills, before heading along the Limehouse Cut to the River Thames. Here we joined the Thames path and made our way to Island Gardens, going through the foot tunnel to Greenwich. We cycled up the one hill on the route to the Royal Observatory for the delightful views of Greenwich, the Docklands, with the inevitable group photo! We then made our way inland to Woolwich, passing the magnificent Charlton House en route. We had our lunch stop by the Thames at the Woolwich Works cafe, then headed back. Unfortunately the Woolwich ferry was not running, so we had to use the foot tunnel, and rather annoyingly the northern lift wasn't working, so we had to carry our bikes up the stairs. Some of the stronger and fitter members of the group helped carry others' bikes up. The return route took us to Beckton, along the Greenway to the Olympic park, then along the River Lea to the Walthamstow Wetlands and back to Edmonton. It was a long day but a very enjoyable one, and another new route for the club. Leader: Tim; Riders: Paul, Peter D, Peter M, Geoff, Michael, Stephen, Debbie, Pat. Backstop: Debbie and Pat
A bright calm autumn day. Riding from Beggars Hollow at 10am towards Potters Bar, Northaw, Kentish Lane, passed by lots of fellow cyclists. We met Julian at Coopers Lane who joined us till lunch at 12.00 on the green Little Berkhamsted. Food at Murphys store or Five Horseshoes pub. Back via Bayford, Wormley, Holy Cross Hill, Cheshunt to Forty Hall Enfield, as we split off to home around 2.30. Leader Bridget, Co leader Jeff, Riders Paul, Peter D, Peter M, Geoff, Michael, Stephen, Julian, Rosa, Marion, Debbie, Angie, Sue, Backstops Chris, Pat.

Never let it be said again that ECC is a fair weather club. We set off from Beggars Hollow in bright conditions and confident that we could cope with any of the light showers which were forecast as a possibility. We even rejoiced in a few hills as we made our way along quiet country roads towards Broxbourne. However, when only about 2 miles from our destination the heavens suddenly opened and we were battered by torrential rain. Unfortunately it was at this exact moment that one of our riders suffered a puncture. Rather than all stand around getting soaked half of us continued on our way leaving the rest to valiently get the bike back on the road. After battling through partially flooded roads and potholes filled to the brim with water we eventually arrived sodden at Dobbs Weir only to find the cafe packed and a 20 plus minute wait for tables. Thankfully we were welcomed into the Fish and Eels pub across the road where we were able to partially dry out in front of their log fire and refuel with hot soup and other goodies. As we made our way back through Lea Valley Park the weather improved but we still encounterd more than our fair share of rain. We also suffered a further puncture, this time a slow one which required frequent reinflation. Surprisingly no-one expressed regret at coming out and some even claimed they had enjoyed the day. Leader: Geoff, Riders: Alan, David W, Debbie, Imran, Jeff, Pat, Paul L, Rosa, Sue, Backstop: Peter M

The weather seemed more promising than last week as we gathered by the Coffee Break for a ride to new destination - the Ace Café, near Wembley, popular with the motor bike fraternity. Thankfully no-one was superstitious as thirteen of us set off along an urban route that took in Hendon and a rather muddy path around Welsh Harp Reservoir. The last leg took us alongside the Brent river to the North Circular Road where we negotiated a circuitious cycle path to the café. Here we admired the vintage motor bikes parked in prime positions and some enjoyed a good fry-up. The return ride took us through Willesden and Cricklewood, then some hills as we passed through Hampstead Garden Suburb and Muswell Hill. The last stretch involved a detour as Ally Pally park was closed for the fireworks, but we made it back to Palmers Green before taking our separate routes home. Leader Peter M, Riders Cathy, Geoff, Debbie, Imran, Jeff, John, Pat, Paul, Peter D, Rosa, Backstop Stephen.
From Edmonton Leisure Centre east to Meridian way and Lee Valley Park by Walthamstow Wetlands. We experienced two punctures within ten minutes at near the old Ikea, now the Drumsheds music venue. East at Coppemill Lane and backstreets to the museum. Here we had some lunch and explored the transport themed exhibits. It also has a South American restaurant on Fridays and Saturdays inside the old tube carriage! Back to Edmonton about 1.45. As heavy rain persisted a number of people who had signed up for this ride decided to drop out during the day. However, nine of us placed our faith in the forecasts, which were promising dry weather from late afternoon, and we assembled at the Coffee Break Café for a 3.30 pm start. Our trust in the Met Office paid off and we didn't see a drop of rain for the rest of the evening. We made our way to the West End using mainly quiet side roads and cycle paths but once there were surprised by the size of the crowds and the amount of traffic. Having locked our bikes we allowed ourselves time for a coffee and snack before having a wander down Regents Street and admiring the lights in Carnaby Street. On our return we cycled along Oxford Street and then took a mostly quiet route back to the Coffee Break. Leader Geoff, Riders Bridget, David W, Imran, Jeff, Marion, Peter M, Backstop Cathy
A mostly sunny ride from Edmonton Leisure Centre, using Meridian way path north to Gunpowder Park and Waltham Cross. Then along Lee Valley Park paths, past the wooden sculptures to Cheshunt station. A short westerly pedal to the café at 12.30. Our return from 1.20 using side roads and cycle track by Great Cambridge Road to Edmonton area. Leader Paul; Riders Imran, Debbie, Richard N and granddaughter; Backstops Jeff, Bridget.
