Monday 2nd January: Victoria Park

A glorious sunny day as we met at Caffe Nero in Enfield Town and decided our route. The democratic decision was for the Narrowboat Café, so we set off in the opposite direction for Victoria Park, leaving at around 10:30am. We followed Meridian way to the towpath at Stonebridge Lock, and then a diversion at Tottenham Hale around the bridge works before crossing Hackney Marshes and then alongside the Hertford Union Canal to Victoria Park. Here we found the Hub Café was closed so we had lunch at the Crown Pub or the Fountain Café. Home by the reverse of the outward route until Edmonton, where we split for our various homward destinations. Leader Eleanor, Jeff, Ron, Mark, Maz, Les, Paul, Jane P, Theresa, Michèle, Liz, Martin, Nick, Terry, Peter

Sunday 29th January: Waltham Abbey

A short winter ride with heavy rain forecast for the afternoon. Maybe this affected the turnout, as three people turned up! From Edmonton Leisure Centre we rode north on Meridian Way to Ponders End, then across Gunpowder Park to Avery Lane, which was closed for resurfacing. But of course bikes could get through, and we continued past Woodgreen Farm, Pick Hill and into Waltham Abbey. Here we had lunch at the Gatehouse Café opposite the church. Back on the towpath to Enfield. There was about half an hour of light rain in the morning, but we were home well before the main downpour later that afternoon. Leader Paul L, Paul J, Peter

Sunday 12th February: London Colney (not)

In the middle of a very cold snap, with temperatures just above freezing, grey skies and light drizzle, it was borderline decision by the three who turned up as to whether to continue. Buoyed by an improving weather forecast, we set off through Crews Hill and up Coopers End Lane. But, despite the forecast, the rain came down more heavily so just beyond Potters Bar we came to our senses and turned homeward. Leader Peter, Paul J, John R

Sunday 19th February: Lee Valley South

A milder winter's day from Edmonton Leisure Centre southbound on the towpath. Around the bridge diversion at Ferry Lane Estate, where we saw the orthodox Jewish community in festive mood for the feast of Purim. We continued through the Walthamstow Marshes to the Riding Centre for a café stop. We then rode into past the Olympic Velodrome (with some being detained by the Cycle Surgery Sale) and on to Victoria Park. Lunch at the Hub café, followed by a return to Edmonton along the direct path. Leader Paul L, Jeff, Peter, Eleanor, John R, Hyacinth. Liz, Martin, Bridget, Jane P

Sunday 5th March: Potters Bar and Northaw

Postponed to 9th April due to heavy rain.

Sunday 12th March: Battersea Park

A milder springlike day as we left Edmonton, but with light rain forecast for later. We followed the familiar route down to Victoria Park, where two more joined us. Into London, crossing three times over the Thames bridges on cycle routes 3 and 8 and into Battersea Park. The rain had arrived by now, as we dispersed into various cafés for lunch. The return trip started with a photocall by the Pagoda, then east along the Embankment cycle route. Some left us along the way to take the train home, while others rode all the way back to Edmonton. Leadwer Eleanor, Jane P, Chandra, Faye, Theresa, Les, Maz, Paul L, John R, Peter, Jeff, Paul J

Sunday 19th March: Loughton

A mile south westerly wind as we left Edmonton Leisure Centre south east, then east via Walthamstow, Leytonstone, under Charlie Brown's roundabout to the towpath by Roding river. Then after a comfort stop at Tesco, Chigwell and onwards over the M11 rising upwards to Loughton where we stopped at the Gardener's Arms pub, with western views across to London, about 1pm. After lunch we took a shorter return but with two climbs near Theydon Bois. Through Epping Forest to High Beach, Mott Street (down!) and so home. At Enfield lock we saw Jaques on his bike going east. Leader John R, Theresa, Paul, Peter Mo, Peter Mu, Jeff, Maz, Stephen, Trevor, Bridget. Les met us in the pub for lunch.

Sunday 26th March: Lee Valley Ride to the Olympic Park

The first joint ride of 2017 set off after 10 o'clock southbound alongside the Lee with Lee Valley Park leader Chris, public riders and club members as marshals. A brief tea stop and meet up at Stonebridge Lock, then south again across Walthamstow Marshes, Hackney Marshes and into the Olympic Park. Lunch at the main café there (with extremely slow service), then our return leg via the Velodrome northwards in fine spring weather. Leader Chris, Les, Peter Mo, Eleanor, Mark, Debbie, Paul, Maz, Jeff, Pat + public riders.

On the return ride about 2pm we climbed Black Lion Hill through Shenley, then on cycle route 12 across to Hadley Wood Station.
