Ride Reports 2000 - by Paul Lafosse
23.1.2000 - Lee Towpath to Stanstead Abbotts
We cycled from Enfield Civic Centre to the
Lee towpath in windy, bright weather. We stopped in Broxbourne for tea.
We then cycled on past the Crown, Fish & Eels pubs, and Rye House go-karts.
We stopped for lunch at The Fisherman in Stansted Abbotts. Homewards
through hail and sleet. Our group split at Ordnance Rd for Enfield and
Edmonton. Those who braved the weather were: Dave, Paul B, Paul
L, Ian S, Stephen, Alan, Sue, John, Wayne, Peter, Aviva, Richard and Jack.
6.2.2000 - Towpath to Stanstead
Abbotts (again!)
Same route (and pub) as a fortnight ago, but with the
following riders: Dave, Paul B, Paul L, Ian S, Stephen, Adrian,
Alan, John, Chris, Aviva, Wayne, Peter, Richard R,
Jasmin, Jonathan, Danielle, Bun and Richard B.
20.2.2000 Towpath
to Eastway Cycle Circuit
Off in glorious sunny weather on the Lee towpath.
Tea at Springfield Marina. Noon at Eastway to see Junior Road
Race. More carrot cake and tea. Then off to
Victoria Park for lunch at the Falcon & Firkin. Riding back at
3pm in more sun, a good bikers day. Wayne, Richard R,

19.3.2000 - Herts Country - by Ian
South
From Enfield past Crews Hill, Potters Bar in sunny weather to lunch at the
Bakers Arms, Bayford. On to Hertford and music outside the White Horse.
South to Wormley, up Holycross Hill then home to Enfield. Dave, John,
Stephen, Richard R, Wayne, Peter, Sue, Ian.
9.4.2000 - Enfield Rangers Country Tour
From Trent Pk, north past Rectory Fm, Cattlegate Rd, up Burnt Fm Ride, right
past Woodgreen Horse stables to Goofs Oak. Along Bread & Cheese Lane
to the Woodman, Wormley for lunch outside! Off at three along Newgate St,
Cuffley, then by Crews Hill golf to Enfield. Special thanks to Christina
& Helen for arrangements. Paul L, Christina, Helen, Ram, Shabreen,
Aviva, Wayne, Peter, Marion, Jeff, Jackie, Tony, Halina, Gordon, Carla,
Danielle, Jonathon, Alan, Jim, Richard, Elaine & 3 others.
11.6.2000 - Round the Borough ride
Twenty four cyclists set off from
Edmonton Leisure Centre to ENfield Lock, on to Halfords superstore, then to
Capel Manor for lunch and a stroll in the gardens. Then to Enfield Town
Park, Grovelands fo afternoon ices & teas. In brighter weather back to
Edmonton for a wonderful buffet tea to round off a pleasant, gentle ride.
Good to see new people.

of Cycling !
London Cycling Festival in Mile End Park -
Saturday 17th June
From Edmonton Leisure Centre in hot weather!
Arriving at 10.50 at Mile nd for a cuppa. Then we saw a wierd and
wonderful parade with bikers and musicians making their way along the park, over
the Green Bridge. We then retired to the Victoria pub for lunch, via the
chip shop!

Trent Park Family Ride - Sunday 18th June
From Enfield Civic Centre up to the Ridgeway on
to Hadley Road to Trent Park. Whoops! Mind that trailer bike!
A pause for joggers and trotters, then on to the cafe. A brief tour of the
mountain bike course at Trent Park before off to lunch at the Cock & Dragon.
Dragon Special Roast, Jim ? Later, relaxing with ices at
Grovelands.

Enfield Civic Centre to the King & Tinker via Whitewebbs Lane and off-roading.
Off via more paths in twilight for an evening soiree at the Crown &
Horseshoes. Cheers!

The
Great Ice Cream Ride - Thursday 22nd June
The
annual evening ride to Marine Ices via Ally Pally, Parkland Walk, Finsbury Park
...etc. Lights on. Arriving around 10pm for ices. Off at
11.30 heading north(ish) for Enfield. What a ride! What ices.
What fun!

London Arrowhead Ride - Sunday 25th June
Groups
from LCC Barnet, Camden, Harringey and Enfield linked up at Hadley Commonfor
lunch at various watering holes before heading West to Shenley Park for tea,
cake, bread and cheese. Around 45 in total gathered for the joint ride.

9.7.2000 - 100 miles for the Mayor's Charity
Off at 9.45, North to Waltham X and
Essex. The poor weather limited the turnout (or was it the "100
miles" ? - Ed). But we ploughed on , through the drizzle. At
last, lunch at the Kings Head, Thaxted where we met up with the leading group of
faster riders. Stayed an hour here - great food. On at 2.30 to
Saffron Waldon to the Mocha Cafe for coffee or milkshakes (Daves).
Heading on in late afternoon showers, wet gear on! Mid evening our small
group with backup van headed SW to Watton-at-Stone, then South as darkness fell.
Was that the Red Arrows display team we saw? Back via Hertingfordbury,
Bayford, Newgate St and Cuffley at about 10.45.
Lift in van to Edmonton after pouring rain.

13.8.2000 - Towpath to Broxbourne
A change of plan saw a 'magnificent'
seven ride North to Fishers Green, Grandweir hide to view wild birds.
Lunch at the Fish & Eels.

20.8.2000 - Cheshunt Lakes
From Enfield Town, east to the Lee.
Over the new Mossops Creek bridge. North to the lakes area. Lunch at
Broxbourne cafe, drinks at the Crown.

24.9.2000 - Cheshunt Lakes - Part 2.
From Enfield to the Lee (Paul, 2
punctures!) up to Fishers Green, tea at Broxbourne. Arriving at Fish &
Eels in driving rain! Drying off we had a good lunch. Off at 2.30 in
more rain. Puncture time for Tony. Regular use of the pump required
to get back. Some stopping off at the Old English Gentleman (Waltham
Abbey). Whoops! Elaine's feather collecting lands her 'in the poo', but
she's OK after a clean-up. Back to Edmonton - and then the sun came out
...

8.10.2000 - Ye Eppinge Foreste
Riding in sunny dry weather from
Enfield, up Kings Head Hill (phew). Tea and nibbles at Queen Elizabeth
Hunting Lodge, then along Rangers Rd and onto Fairmead Rd to the bikers' cafe
for more nosh. We called an ambulance for a young boy, out on his bike
with his dad, who had fallen off awkwardly. Wanting more food after that
excitement, we stopped for lunch at the Kings Oak, only to be dissappointed by a
poor menu, the farce of waiter Manuel taking our cutlery away before we'd
started, and no hand dryers! Back via Mott Street to Enfield Lock -
Whoops! Alan has a puncture and Paul falls off by Mossops Bridge.
Altogether an eventful day out.

22.10.2000 - Annual Victoria Park ride
South on the Lee towpath in drizzle.
Lunch at the Crown Organic Pub and nibbles at the Victoria Park cafe.
Puncture time for Ian, Sandra and Jim. SUnshine at last at three in the
park.

19.11.2000 - Northaw 'Mystery Ride'.
Thirteen hardy cyclists braved the
early drizzle. Along past Crews Hill, west to Northaw. The sun came
out as we stopped for lunchg at 'The Sun'!! But 13 was an unlucky number
and it poured down as we set off again .... a very soggy end to the last ride of
the year!!

9.12.2000 - Annual Festive Club Meal
The largest social turnout so far.
Thirty happy bikers enjoyed a varied menu at the Forum Court restaurant.
Karaoke singing, led by Alan and Marlena - encore! encore! (Many thanks to
Paul for organising this night out).
