Edmonton Cycle Club Norfolk Weekend, 2008

Saturday 10th May - Monday 12th May 2008: A long weekend in North Norfolk  - words by Paul LeFosse

The 21 riders got the 8.18 Cheshunt to Kings Lynn in warm sunny weather. From Kings Lynn to Castle Rising for morning tea and coffee then, passing through the grounds of of the Sandringham Royal Estate to the King William IV pub in Snettisham for a lazy Sunday lunch outside.

On eastwards to Burnham Thorpe, Admiral Nelsons birthplace, for afternoon drinks at the Lord Nelson pub.

Further on into the Holkham Hall estate and grounds along the mile avenue, past lake and house, joining the Peddars Way coastal path to Wells-Next-the-Sea. Andy and Peter visited the beach but got a puncture..

Let's hope no one does this in the hostel!

We arrived at Wells youth hostel at 6.30 pm to sort ourselves out before dining out at Frenchies fish shop and the Ark Royal pub, then on to The Edinburgh pub for stories, laughter, jokes and beer etc.

Earlier at the hostel, Hyacinth got a bit of a surprise when she went into one of the rooms to find one of our male members of the party in a state of undress!! Better not say who....!

Quite a day, guys.

Sunday 11th - Day 2

A day where choices could be made as to what to do.....Many rode east to go seal watching on the guided boat trip from Morston.

Four went window shopping in town and were drawn in by 'quality local clothes designs' where items were bought!

Three travelled on the Wells and Walsingham Light Railway to Walsingham.

The happy shoppers then rode to Binham to meet up with with the seal squad  for a mouth watering lunch and an ale or three, enjoying the great service at the Chequers.

After, we had a look at  St Mary's Priory remains and grounds in Binham. Then we split again to go swimming or sunbathing at Wells Beach, visit friends or go to Holkham Hall estate and house via a short detour.

A day out with the seals.                                                                                                      Put some clothes on please!

Our evening meal at 8.00 pm was enjoyed around the block from the hostel at the Bowling Green Inn until late. We enjoyed an entertaining evening of food, beer, stories, photo calls and a fashion parade by the ladies who wanted to show of their new items.

Dave's friends from Hertfordshire - Jan and Sheila - popped in and stopped for a natter.

Much laughter and board games back at HQ before bed.

Monday 12th - Day 3

We left the hostel at 9.30 am and headed towards Walsingham, viewing the church there, past Great and Little Snoring, Hindolveston, Fulmodeston, Foulsham and onto Reepham and lunch, at the Old Brewery pub, the Kings Head, Diane's Pantry and V's Tea and Cake Shop.

Kieron reconnoitred the way ahead onwards on to the NCN1 towards Norwich - The Marriot's Way, some of it by the Wensum River.

The path was long and well surfaced and it got us into Norwich City centre by about 4.00 pm., so we rested at the Coach and Horses.

Groups of 4 left every half hour or so in trains to Liverpool Street and then towards home. Last group left Norwich at 6.35 arriving at Liverpool St at 8.30. catching up with another group for train home to Edmonton.

Some go to the pub...just for a change... before going home.

Another great day of events and a fantastic trip. Many thanks to Richard for all his hard work organising and leading the trip.
