August 2016

Time: 8:00 PM
Meeting Place: Winchmore Hill Sports Club Pavillion, Firs Lane, N21 3ER
Information: Club meeting / social. To include a discussion of possible car sharing to next Sunday's Chilterns ride, and the options for the afternoon route now that we know Lee Church is not offering cream teas this year.

Date: Sunday 07 Aug 2016
Time: 10:46 AM
Meeting Place: Chesham Metropolitan Line Station
Information: The Chiltern Hills. There is a clue in the name - expect some steep hills up and down. We'll take the ups slowly and regroup at the top, but please make sure you have good brakes for the downs. Lunch stop in Wendover, then a rewarding climb to the top of Coombe Hill for the stupendous views over the Vale of Aylesbury. We had hoped to stop at The Lee church for a cream tea in the afternoon, but it seems these are not running this year. We will decide our return route on the day - it may be possible to fit in another church tea. About 25 miles overall, almost all on road (the exception is a short path at the top of Combe Hill which is well made but unpaved).
Although Chesham is on the Underground, the trains are only every 30 minutes. You can take bikes on the Metropolitan and Circle Lines outside rush hours. The 09:50 Metropolitan Line train from Baker Street arrives at 10:46, and the ride will set off as soon as this train has arrived. There is parking on the streets around the station (and in the station car park but this costs £1 on Sundays).
Leader: Peter M

There is an event at Ascot Racecourse this weekend which means that trains will be extremely busy. So this ride has been cancelled. Sorry.

Date: Sunday 28 Aug 2016
Time: 10:00 AM
Meeting Place: Beggars Hollow
Information: Letty Green. About 27 miles, mainly on road but with about 3 miles off road. Most of the off road is on a disused rail line, and should be passable by road bikes with care.
